Forms and distinctions

Different preparations of the same material are described separately, because what is recorded for one form does not carry to another.

The culinary dried leaf and the steam-distilled essential oil are regulated separately, the oil having been assessed and authorised in Europe as a feed additive. The European medicines regulator has finalised a monograph only for the related species Origanum dictamnus, not for common oregano.
